I am creating a documentary to raise the awareness of reasons leading to teenage crime and behavior within the local area of Banstead. The purpose of this project is to portray how a lack of activates and entertainment for teenagers can lead to them taking wrong paths.
I am trying to find out what teenagers get up too when they go out, I am trying to find this out because I'm certain that teenagers do things they should not be doing due to boredom. I feel like if I can show my audience that they take wrong paths due to lack of entertainment, something can be done about it to prevent it.
Different research methods that I used?
I used a variety of research methods such as, primary, secondary, quantitative and qualitative.
Primary research is research that i conducted myself from scratch to suit what i wanted to know from the audience. For example, i conducted a survey from survey monkey that would help me gather a better understanding of what teenagers were getting up to.
Another research method i used was secondary research, this is a key part of my research that i gathered due to myself understanding statistics such as income within the local area. Things like statistics, population and income you will be able to find online, the use of the internet is secondary research due to it being information that already exists. Also i used the social network to find out how active places round Banstead are, this benefited me because the most popular areas i can investigate and see what teenagers are up to. In addition, researching trip advisor gave me the evidence i needed to portray that their is not enough to do for teenagers in Banstead.
Quantitative research was used when i was gathering figures (this type of research is number based). I gathered box office figures for documentaries to see how competitors were doing, this would help understand where they went wrong and maybe can develop on their mistakes to make my film better. Also i gathered statistics on the income and population within Banstead.
Qualitative research was used when i was researching information that people have blogged about short film. I found "fanzines" which are a magazine that is produced for the fans, in this case i found one that was produced for the fans of short film. Fanzines would benefit me due to the fact that they create a 24/7 community for short film makers that can help each other with problems.
DATA PRESENTED:
From this source of information located on the website of Reigate and Banstead council, it states that the population in Banstead is increasing by 1000 people a year since 2001. An increase in population means that more teenagers will be living in Banstead. More teenagers means that more activities will have to be put in place, otherwise they will be meeting up and roaming the streets possibly leading to violence and drugs.

Teenagers were more interested in trying Vodka than not trying it. Teenagers that are consuming alcohol on a regular basis are more likely to promote drugs and violence because it is proven that alcohol causes reckless behavior.
11% of children under 16 in Banstead are living in poverty.
Analysis of the results and conclusion
First of all, due to 22% of the population in Banstead being under 18 the town should suit some of their needs. For example, their should be activities placed to suit them such as a cinema. As the generation evolves, realistically the surroundings should suit the up and coming generation.
The vodka test. The vodka test showed me not only that Teenagers are influenced to drink alcohol at such a young age but their is also a sign of not caring. Teenagers simply do not care as much as the older generation so as a result some of their actions will be reckless.
This is a good enough reason to keep teenagers occupied because they can easily be peer pressured into something that is wrong. Peer pressure could possibly be the reason for the crime rate in Banstead to be increasing.
11% of children in Banstead under 16 years of age are living in poverty. You might wonder how this might link to Teenagers not having enough activities?
The way in which teenagers are like outside of home, is heaving influenced by how they are treated at home... think about it.
A child that is used to seeing their Parents use violence and threatening language, is obviously going to pass that on outside of home because that is what they think is normal behavior. Children who live in poverty are often the ones who increase criminal activity, so would it not make sense to build and create activities for Children before they wonder the streets.
The criminal breakdown chart shows criminal activity in the year 2015. As you can see from the chart, anti - social behavior and violent crime are the largest on the scale.
I have to wonder if statistics would be this way if Banstead was a very entertaining community for the younger generation...
Anti social behavior is mainly caused by boredom. It springs the idea that Teenagers are bored roaming the streets and as result are put in a bad mood. Instantly you can see that what good will come out of Teenagers roaming Banstead in a bad mood! Also boredom can leave violence as the option to entertain!
What do i propose i do now that i have my findings?
Now that i have my findings and research i can successfully portray what i need to the audience, i can show them what i have found and hopefully raise the importance of lack of activities for teenagers. If teenagers do not keep their mind occupied on something good, then the real fact is that they could focus on something bad such as violence.
My findings will heavily affect my production work in the sense of i have a clearer vision of what the audience needs to see in order for them to realize. I feel like if i give my opinions and state that more needs to be done for teenagers i wont get anywhere, however people agree with facts. So now that i have the evidence i need i can hopefully draw their attention to the issue.
A lot has changed since i conducted my research, the biggest thing was that i thought my opinions could not be backed up enough for something to be done about it. However now that i have evidence that lack of ambition can lead to crime for teenagers, i feel like this is an issue that people can't ignore.
